I Want To iTouch You
by Del Conkright
I just got an iTouch iPod from my son for my birthday. I took it out of its exquisite box and turned it on. It immediately saw my wireless network. I added my password and was on the internet. I mailed my first message to my wife to tell her I had received it. I hooked the iTouch to my computer with the included USB cable.
It immediately showed up in iTunes. The options for syncing came up. It synced most of my songs, movies, and videos. (They had to be in a specific format.) It synced my bookmarks from Safari, Contacts from my Address Book, and my photos from iPhoto. Let’s see-- within a few minutes-- I opened the box, connected to the internet and wireless network, sent a message, connected to the computer, and
synced songs, movies, videos, bookmarks from Safari, Contacts, and photos. It would have done podcasts, Calendars, and audio books, too.
This isn’t a Mac so you don’t have to know how to use a Mac. This is just so Mac like, though, because it is so easy to use and so intuitive when using. You don’t even have to be a typist. You type with your favorite finger. (I usually use my thumb. Go figure!) The letter you touch gets bigger so you can see what you typed.
It has a back space to make corrections when you big finger hits the wrong key. :) You use your thumb and index finger to make the pictures and text bigger. Pinch them together while touching the screen for the image and text to get smaller. Separate them and they get bigger. Keep separating them and they continue to get bigger. I was most impressed with this feature when I went to Maps, clicked on an eye icon, typed in my address, clicked on Search, clicked on the eye again, clicked on Satellite view, and proceeded to enlarge the picture and adjusting photo until I could see my house and property. Google Map is included! It will give you directions visually and in a list too.
I have tried in a very limited way to spark your interest (iTouch you) in how fantastic the iTouch is, how easy it is to use, how remarkable it is, and how you, with no computer knowledge, can use the iTouch easily. What are the easy to use programs included on a new iTouch?
Applications included on the iTouch are: iTunes (with all your songs, movies, videos, pad casts, audio books), Safari, Calendar, Mail, Contacts, You Tube, Stocks, Maps, Weather, Clock, Calculator, Notes, and Settings. Thirteen applications, all just as easy to use with just two fingers.
I didn’t write this article to tell you how to use the iTouch. I haven’t even used most of them yet. I know, though, they are all just as easy to use as iTunes and Maps. I just wanted to iTouch you. Did I?
